The hawker singer

Translated by: Parvin Toluei

From ” 33 Erotic Poems" of Vahid Ziaei

Preface:

Please close your eyes, and imagine a messenger who plays a saxophone! It is very strange but creates a sweet sense. Every note of this music carries numerous packages of light and concept with itself, toward every one who can hear or not. He’s promised to keep his mission, up to the last notes of his saxophone, his last breath. And this messenger is our poet. He penetrates into the eyes, hearts, minds, and reaches the white tribe’s time from the lover’s body. He rounds around all the pains himself, but does not hope any one it. He becomes heavyhearted because of remembering the past narrow broken years but beside every lover he jumps over all sad nesses. His new year is really new. This poet messenger confirms the previous messengers, like every other messenger, even behind the cement walls. The cement walls are despised against all the messengers, all the poets.

But Vahid Ziaei, as the poet of this "33 Erotic Poems" has broken through the wall of all literal limit. Erotism has found a very new appearance for itself in his works. Reading them you’re able to smile, frown, and reach a very sublime sense about the events, synchronously. Then read and practice this difference.

1)"The call made arteries"

I slide from the fourth spine of the neck

To the white, tribe’s time;

They pass off in smoke, my call made arteries

Horizontally you open the umbrella

To rain not the man!

Barefoot you arrive

On my opposite pregnancy of your breasts

I boil over from your throat,

Your teeth’re borrowed, your hurry’s false!

2)"The poet"

The harmonica of the lips

Numerous,

I am;

And a hawker singer

My lips!

3)"Making love to the shrine"

The big forehead and then

Charm me lip to lip!

Up to the knee lick a lip

Do not drop me beware!

This making love to the shrine…

We’ve dyed, that’s many years… both

But not in me!

4)"Your tears"

Play tap, tap, and four taps after each other

And then for shame,

The silent lampion of that corner-

From the flank of what so called’s hot ‘n hot

     Must walk

Two steps until denying of the spots happened by chance -

Fells down

And so do my hands!

5)*"The new day"

Passing me beside you not,

Beside you,

If it causes to be slippery not,

You will be drenched

Though your beside is slippery,

The new day again

Will jump and they account segmentary

The narrow broken years!

*the new day : It is the same "nowruz", the ancient day in which the new year begins, the day of annual traditional ceremony of Iranian people because of the prevailing of good nesses and brightness over the uncleanness and darkness, the day which has the deep meaning of rejuvenation in its pure concept. It is the day of creation of Adam, the promised day of "Messiah"’s coming back…

6)"the humpback ness of kisses"

Not reached to the groin of you

From what coquetry understood you,

*The widow’s stick

Back to back they lie down

Humped

Your kisses!

From the groins above,

I hang you on,

And it is being cleaved in sides

From my chest,

Like you!

7)"hanging of your neck"

From that ears

That the cavity behind your ears

Originates from the light of your lip

   Who case

From what, where, when and now

     I originate from your pedant

From those deaf ears are stone!

8)*"the city of salty water"

… This one at noon

And the lake,

Four steps and harmonized;

The silent confession’s adverted to your fingers,

While I lost the chess over the shrine

The little girl decayed

Inside the brick.

The sun, in the midst of the hall,

Wants ecstasy of the hanging sofa …

Inside my fingers, stained

Four kisses, and harmonized

And the lake,

…This one at noon

*"Shurabil": A natural lake in Ardabil. Its name consists of the parts "shur", "ab", and "il". "Shur" means salty, "ab" water and "il" is the converted shape of the ancient word "vill" which means "the city". Then "Shurabil" itself means the salty water

9)"the cement wall"

I boil over the fall of the glass,

Head first, headlong

Tide is your yellow shirt hills!

Remembering it, you must keep it secret

Like the pure keeping*

Of the son supposing eaten by the" shahnameh"

Remembering it

Press it closely and make joy in its jugular vein

In the foreleg which was polished

In the sunset

Behind the cement wall!

It refers to the adventure of "Siavash" in the universal epic work of "Ferdowsi".

10)"separation fish"

The agreement soil of the new day,

Feast not the separation of so many centuries.

Without you even if

The fish passes through the sky,

The moon on a sky,

 The fish on a carafe,

For beauty, is not able

To be like yours

To be like you,*the sun- like moon

That well-done *"so told Zoroaster"

*"the sun-like moon": "mehr mah" is one of the most pure phrases in Persian language. It is a mix consists of two strange parts. The first part "mehr" which is the changed shape of "mithra", directly points to the "fire" as the most important symbol of "Mithraism". This "mehr" or fire, with its deep concept, is the origin of

kindness, light, and cleanness in Persian culture. Mehr is also the literal name of sun. But the second part: "mah" the original source of "month" in English. It is the moon also. And the moon is the symbol of beauty, woman, purity, and dignity. In Persian language, "mehrmah" means the month mehr. Also mehr is the seventh month of Iranian calendar. And in this poem it seems that the poet in spite of using this combination has taken all related meanings in mind. And according to his deep style, it is not that much unthinkable. The poet speaks about a love who has gathered all the perfect qualities of "mehr" and "mah", both, in herself.

*"so told Zoroaster": it is a direct reference to the famous book of "Niche", "so told Zoroaster". The negative body of this poem suddenly opens like a bud   under the shade of Zoroaster, in the last line. I think the poet, in some how, wants to shout his disagreement with "Mithra"(trinity) and his agreement with "Zoroaster"(unity), in other word, myth and reality.

11)"the labyrinth of being"

If a labyrinth,

If thousands of closets it becomes,

You watch your rebellious pyramids!

A tu whit tu whoo;

Think it is

The back ground music of tent – likes!

Always regret the always

O… the descent astonished nymph!
